Tree Preservation Orders
Tree Preservation orders (or TPO’s) can be placed on individual trees, a group of trees, or entire areas of woodland. TPO’s are placed by the council on trees that are considered to have an amenity value.
Before any work (Including pruning, thinning, cutting, etc) is carried out to a tree, or group of trees, with a TPO, permission must be sort from the local council.
You would probably know if the trees on your property have a TPO on them, but if in doubt you must check with the council first.
Permission for tree work can be gained through the Planning Portal here.
